(Continued)
COLLECT (The Prayer)
The priest returns to the Missal and prays the prayer for the day:
|
|
Almighty and everlasting God, Thou hast given Thy servants grace in the confession of the true Faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of Thy majesty to adore the unity; grant that by steadfastness in the same Faith we may be defended from all adversities. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
R. Amen.
|
R. Amen.

THE EPISTLE
The priest reads or chants the Epistle for the day:
|
|
Lesson from the Epistle of the blessed Apostle Paul to the Romans: O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are His judgments, and how unsearchable His ways! For “Why hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been His counsellor? Or who hath first given to Him, and recompense shall be made him?” For of Him, and by Him, and in Him, are all things: to Him be glory forever. Amen.
R. Thanks be to God.
|
Amen.
R. Deo gratias.

Alleluia, alleluia. V. Blessed art Thou, O Lord the God of our fathers, and worthy to be praised forever. Alleluia.
|
Domine, in firmamento caeli, et laudabilis in saecula.
Alleluia, alleluia. V. Benedictus es, Domine, Deus patrum nostrorum, et laudibilis saecula. Alleluia.

HOLY GOSPEL
The priest, returning to the middle of the altar, bows down, joins his hands, and says
|
|
P: Cleanse my heart and my lips, O almighty God,
Who didst cleanse with a burning coal the lips of the prophet Isaias; and
vouchsafe in Thy loving kindness so to purify me that I may be enabled
worthily to announce Thy holy Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Vouchsafe, O Lord, to bless me. The Lord be in my heart and on my lips, that I may worthily and becomingly announce His gospel. Amen.
The priest goes to the Gospel side of the altar and reads the
Gospel for the Mass he is celebrating.
P: The Lord be with you.
R: And with thy spirit.
P: + The following is taken from
the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew.
R: Glory be to Thee, O Lord.
P. At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: “All power is given to Me in heaven and on earth. Going therefore, teach ye all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world.”
At the end of the Gospel, the server says
R: Praise be to Thee, O Christ.
P: May our sins be blotted out by the words of the
Gospel.
|
P: Munda cor meum, ac labia mea, omnipotens Deus, qui labia Isaiae prophetae calculo mundasti ignito: ita me tua grata miseratione dignare mundare, ut sanctum Evangelium tuum digne valeam nuntiare. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.
Jube Domine benedicere. Amen.
P: Dominus vobiscum.
R: Et cum spiritu tuo.
P: + Sequentia (vel Initium) Sancti Evangelii secundum Mattheu.
R: Gloria tibi Domine.
R: Laus tibi, Christe.
P: Per evangelica dicta deleantur nostra delicta.
