For over 20 years a small group of parishioners of St. Michael’s Parish in Spokane, Washington, has been making rosaries and scapulars to send to missions in the U.S., Mexico, Ecuador, New Zealand, and a number of countries in both Africa and Asia. Thousands have also been sent to the military. The guild has been responsible for sending out over a quarter of a million rosaries, which have been much appreciated, especially by those who cannot afford them.
One of the goals of the Rosary and Scapular Guild was to send out 1,200 cord rosaries and as many brown scapulars as possible every month. In recent months, however, the number has dropped to about half of that.
Up until recently, the guild has been supported financially mostly by one individual who took on a job specifically for this purpose. Over the past year, however, this generous benefactor has been forced by medical issues to retire from work. Along with the recent increase in postal rates, especially for non-domestic mail, the guild now faces a large shortfall in its annual operating budget of $5,000.
Although guild members continue to make and mail out rosaries and scapulars, donations are needed to purchase supplies and to pay for postage. Your prayers and financial support for this very worthy cause are much appreciated, and certainly will also be rewarded by our Blessed Mother with her special graces and protection.
