Prayers to St. Joseph

holy St. Joseph

The first two prayers below are led after every Mass at St. Michael's Parish to obtain St. Joseph’s continued aid in the maintenance and restoration of our facilities at Mount St. Michael.

Novena Prayer to St. Joseph

Glorious Saint Joseph, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, to thee do we raise our hearts and hands to implore thy powerful intercession. Obtain for me from the benign Heart of Jesus the help and the graces necessary for my spiritual and temporal welfare, particularly for the grace of a happy death and the special favor I now implore: (the maintenance and restoration of our facilities at Mount St. Michael) Guardian of the Word Incarnate, I feel animated with confidence that thy prayers in our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. O glorious St. Joseph, through the love thou didst bear to Jesus Christ, and for the glory of His name, hear our prayers and obtain our petitions. Amen.

Memorare to St. Joseph

Remember, O most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, that never it hath been heard that anyone invoked thy patronage and sought thine aid without being comforted. Inspired by this confidence I come to thee and fervently commend myself to thee. Despise not my petition, dear foster father of our Redeemer, but accept it graciously. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in thee all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph, do assist me by thy powerful intercession and obtain for me from thy Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below thy heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers. O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thy arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near thy heart. Press him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for me. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker

Glorious Saint Joseph, pattern of all who are devoted to toil, obtain for me the grace to toil in the spirit of penance, in order thereby to atone for my many sins; to toil conscientiously, putting devotion to duty before my own inclinations; to labor with thankfulness and joy, deeming it an honor to employ and to develop, by my labor, the gifts that I have received from Almighty God; to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience, without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties; to work above all with a pure intention and with detachment from self, having always before my eyes the hour of death and the accounting which I must then render of time ill-spent, of talents unemployed, of good undone, and of my empty pride in success, which is so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all through Mary, all in imitation of thee, O PatriarchJoseph! This shall be my motto in life and in death. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph

Prescribed for the Month of October by Pope Leo XIII

To thee, O blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction, and, having implored the help of thy thrice holy Spouse, we now, with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly beg thee also to take us under thy protection. By that charity wherewith thou wert united to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly love with which thou didst cherish the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray that thou wilt look down with gracious eye upon that inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by His blood, and wilt assist us in our need by thy power and strength. Defend, O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen offspring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving Father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And even as of old thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the peril of His life, so now defend God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity. Shield us ever under thy patronage, that, following thine example and strengthened by thy help, we may live a holy life, die a happy death, and attain to everlasting bliss in heaven. Amen.
